Who is NOT a Good Candidate for Lipolaser & EMS?

  • December 26, 2025
  • Com 0

While Lipolaser and EMS are safe for most people, certain individuals should avoid these treatments or require medical clearance first. Here’s a detailed breakdown of who should not undergo these procedures.

  1. Absolute Contraindications (Strict No-Gos)

– Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

  • Why?
  • Lipolaser: No safety data for fetal development.
  • EMS: Muscle contractions could trigger premature labor.
  • Alternatives:
  • Manual lymphatic drainage (after 2nd trimester).
  • Postpartum EMS only after recovery (~3–6 months post-delivery).

– Pacemakers or Implantable Defibrillators

  • Why?
  • EMS electrical pulses can interfere with devices (life-threatening!).
  • Alternatives:
  • CoolSculpting (cryolipolysis) for fat reduction.
  • Radiofrequency (RF) treatments for skin tightening.

– Epilepsy or Severe Neurological Disorders

  • Why?
  • EMS electrical impulses may trigger seizures.

– Active Cancer (Undergoing Treatment)

  • Why?
  • No studies on effects on tumor cells.
  • Exception: After treatment completion + doctor’s approval.
  1. Relative Contraindications (Proceed with Caution)

Varicose Veins or Blood Clot Disorders

  • Risk:
  • Lipolaser may worsen inflammation in affected areas.
  • Solution:
  • Consult a vascular specialist first.
  • Wear compression stockings during/after treatment.

Severe Kidney or Liver Disease

  • Why?
  • Released fat byproducts must be metabolized.
  • Solution:
  • Check kidney/liver function tests (creatinine, enzymes).
  • Double hydration (3–4L water/day).

 Skin Conditions in Treatment Area

  • Problem Areas:
  • Open wounds
  • Psoriasis/eczema
  • Fresh scars (<6 months old)
  • Solution:
  • Let heal first or treat alternative areas.

 Blood Thinners (e.g., Warfarin, Heparin)

  • Risk:
  • EMS may cause muscle microbleeding.
  • Solution:
  • Check INR levels (must be in safe range).
  1. People with Unrealistic Expectations

– “I Want to Lose 20 kg!”

  • Reality:
  • Lipolaser/EMS is not for weight loss—max localized reduction of 0.8–2 inches.
  • Better Options:
  • Whole-body fat loss via diet + exercise.
  • Bariatric surgery for obesity.

– “I Won’t Change My Diet/Lifestyle!”

  • Problem:
  • Fat will return without hydration, protein, and movement.
  • Solution:
  • Pre-treatment coaching on realistic goals.
